For 136 years we celebrate Carnival in Versilia. This year is not different, at weekends or on special terms for the carnival, adorned at its most beautiful seaside resort of Viareggio, is lovingly made of cardboard masks, figurines and handicrafts great cartoons. On the outskirts of Viareggio when driving down the highway, you see them throughout the year is an entire neighborhood of warehouses and places where they create their pieces by artists and laymen. It is a very special Carnival neither the Rhineland, even Venice are similar. Sure, there is a carnival, they also do laugh about so-called celebrities and politicians, and the strap-like, as elsewhere, but the original cardboard characters often reach truly remarkable art form. We see neither drunk nor aggressive man- all family celebration, have fun and enjoys himself, with lots of music and humor. These include small kiosks - the issue in time from all over Italy (food specialties, antiques, fashion, art, kitsch, toys, people dress but also back in the many cafes or simply looking at the sun, the next door in sinks into the sea. February is, in the Tuscany-spring is near. Although last winter was very wet and cold states we have lovely yellow mimosa, rosemary flowers and birds chirping differently than it did just weeks ago. If we feel we know every corner in Italy, one is constantly surprised. Or have you ever heard by the Principality of Seborga? At an altitude of 500m o.v.M. , with ca. 330 residents and a size of 14 km2 is the Principality almost a record. It is permitted to the people of the several small shops to use other currency than the euro-and indeed their own, the Luigino, which is about 6 USD worth. Italy has never been brought legal action against the tiny state, and so Seborga is recognized by other mini-states. In addition to its own currency and postage stamps we have here their own car plates and identity cards. The Principality of Seborga has its own government with a prince and the mayor and 12 members of the council. In the Middle Ages Templars had left their mark here, ruled today the Prince Giorgio I. The pretty hamlet, more appropriate description as a principality, is situated on the Ligurian coast, close to France, on the highway accessible via Bordighera. His Panorama is in addition to the sights (such as the San Martino church) and cuisine (game, fish and rabbits- specialties) worth a visit. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture (olives) and tourism.
